Public Affairs Officer

BBS Recruitment is currently recruiting for an experienced Public Affairs Officer (Comms & Marketing) in a temp position for our client in Bromley.

Hybrid Working – on average 2 days in the office per week.

The Role a Public Affairs Officer

• Undertake duties with a minimum level of direct supervision.

• Be able to think strategically.

•  Write for press releases, social media and magazine articles.

• Able to plan a communications strategy and action plan around any of the council’s services with a particular emphasis initially on Housing, Planning, Regeneration and Strategic Property.

• Able to research, write and produce materials targeted at a variety of different   audiences both internal and external.

• Deliver the communications plan, to include, writing press releases, web material, leaflets, newsletters, magazine articles and social media.

• Able, or willing to learn, to produce video content where required. Editing skills useful but not essential.

• Knowledge of working in a political environment would be useful.

• Experience of working in a team – this role will report to the Public Affairs Executive and the Head of Service.

• Experience of working at all levels – this role can include working with Heads of Service, directors and Portfolio holders and ward councillors.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES AN PUBLIC AFFARI OFFICER

To act as the first point of contact, maintaining professional communications with internal and external customers, including email and telephone enquiries, handling them as appropriate.

To create press releases, news reports, marketing materials, statements for social media Council websites etc, to agreed standards.

To create, edit and publish engaging video content, developing the Council’s use of video and social media.

To respond appropriately to media enquiries, preparing media releases and arranging interview opportunities.

To assist the Communications Executive in promoting and engaging stakeholders in participating in Council initiatives, using a wide range of techniques and methods as appropriate for the audiences.

To ensure that relationships with Members, senior managers and peers are the most effective for achieving business requirements.

To keep up to date with all matters that affect the Council.

To contribute to Council newsletters.

To provide a full range of communications advice, training and support to the Council’s services.

Other Requirements   

You must have an existing DBS.
