BBS Recruitment is currently recruiting for an experienced Social and Healthcare Qualified (Rehabilitation Officer Visually Impaired (ROVI) (Grade I) in a temporary to permanent position for our client in Tower Hamlets.

Main Responsibilities a Social and Healthcare Qualified:

To assess the needs of newly registered or newly referred people with impaired vision as to their suitability for a rehabilitative programme and their other needs.

To provide a comprehensive training and advisory service to people with impaired vision and to staff and others who help them regarding:

The understanding of psychological effects of visual impairment,

Teaching of daily living skills,

The use of equipment and adaptations,

Communication skills,

The procedures and services available,

The implication of legislation on service provision.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The post holder will be required to conduct assessment and review visits and attend meetings as necessary.

To organise and run Rehabilitation training courses for groups of people with impaired vision.

To actively liaise and develop links with the Health Authority and other agencies to improve communication and service provision for people with impaired vision.

To liaise and work as needed with national and local voluntary agencies who provide services for people with impaired vision, e.g., RNIB, MSB, See Ability, Jewish Care.

To promote community education concerning the needs of people with visual impairment e.g., by talks and demonstrations to appropriate groups.

The post holder will help to develop and support self help groups, clubs and new services in the borough for visually impaired people including supervising advising volunteers and staff if necessary.

To assist the Team Manager in developing, planning and implementing a comprehensive service to people with impaired vision across the borough.

To supervise Social Work students, Rehabilitation Officer Trainees and other Rehabilitation staff as appropriate.

To take responsibility in consultation with the Team Manager and Home Equipment Store for the ordering, purchasing and receipt of equipment and adaptations for people with visual impairments and ensure that this is kept within the agreed budget.

The post holder will take responsibility for the management and budget for the borough-wide Talking Books service.

To always carry out responsibilities and duties regarding the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy.

To assist with the monitoring of service delivery, ensuring that needs are regularly evaluated, that gaps in service are identified and responded to appropriately.

To assist the Team Manager in ensuring that each budget is spent only on accordance with financial regulations; and that value for money is obtained on behalf of the Council and that no expenditure is committed with will incur costs more than approved budgets.  The post holder will also ensure that all income under their control is promptly recovered and that budgeted income is achieved.
